BATHROOM INSTALLATION IN SOLIHULL

Bathroom installation in solihull

What to expect when you’re new bathroom is being fitted.

So you’ve decided to have a new bathroom fitted and you might be wondering how it might affect your everyday routine at home so I have decided to write a little section explaining the complete process which will hopefully help you to understand what to expect whilst the work is on-going.

The first part of a bathroom project is to conclude and decide on what bathroom or shower room suite you would like to have installed.  Once this has been decided, the next phase is to choose which wall and floor tiles you would like. Finally, you will need to find a reputable bathroom fitter to do the work for you which is hopefully where I come in.

On the first day and before starting work, clean dust sheets will be laid from the entrance of your house to the bathroom in order to protect your floor coverings and carpets from any dust or dirt. Next, work will begin to remove your old bathroom suite and wall and floor tiles. This usually takes between 6-8 hours depending on how many wall and/or floor tiles you have. Unfortunately, there will be some noise whilst the wall and floor tiles are being removed as they will need to be removed using a hammer and bolster. During the process of removing the bathroom suite, the mains water may need to be turned off for a short period of time whilst preparations are made to remove the old bathroom or shower room suite. After the suite has been removed, all pipe work will be safely capped off to ensure no leaks can occur. Day 2. Now that the bathroom has been completely stripped out it is time to install new pipework to accommodate the new bathroom installation. Whilst this process is on-going, it might be necessary to turn off the mains water for a short period of time whilst the pipe work is modified. Now that the pipework has been modified to accommodate the new bath or shower, it will be necessary to make the walls and floor good in readiness for tiling. Depending on how bad the walls are, either plasterboard or plaster will be used to make them smooth or flat in readiness for tiling or painting. Day 3. When the walls and floor have been prepared, the bath or shower can now be installed and preparations can be made to ‘set out’ for the new tiling. Day 4,5,6,&7. The tiling of your new bathroom is also a very important part of the finished project so a lot of care and attention will be taken during this very detailed and intricate process. Day 8&9. When the tiling is complete, the rest of the bathroom sanitary ware can be installed. This usually comprises of toilet, basin, shower screen, thermostatic shower, shower cubicle and fixtures such as mirror cabinets, toilet roll holder, tooth paste holder & tumbler etc. Day 10. The last part of the project is to ensure that your bath or shower is water tight! Silicone sealant will be applied around the bath and or shower to ensure that no water can possibly go where it shouldn’t do. Finally, the bathroom installation process is complete and you are now left to enjoy your bathroom for many years to come.

Common questions:

1. What if we only have one toilet in the house? How can we cope without a toilet whilst having a new bathroom fitted?

Answer: No need to worry, we won’t ever leave you without a toilet. If you only have one toilet in the house, we will leave the toilet in place whilst the work is on-going. The toilet will only be removed for a short period of time in order to adjust any pipework accordingly to accommodate the new toilet at the end of the installation process.

2. How long will I be without a shower or bath?

Answer: The process of removing the old bathroom suite, preparing the walls and modifying the plumbing to install the new bath usually takes no more than 2-3 days so at most this is how long you will be without your bath. The process of installing the new shower however is very different as unfortunately, the glass shower enclosure is always the last thing to be fitted so it will not be possible to use this until the bathroom project is fully completed.

3. How long before I can use my new bathroom or shower?

Answer: After sealing you’re your new bathroom with silicone sealant, it will be necessary to let it fully cure before the shower or bath can be used. It is recommended to wait at least 24 hours for the silicone sealant to fully cure.
